The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025 is on track to sell the most tickets in the tournament’s near half-century history. This year’s tournament will be held for the first time ever in the 50-000 person capacity Kai Tak Stadium, adding thousands of seats compared to past editions of the event at the Hong Kong Stadium in Causeway Bay.
The Sevens’ renowned mix of world-class sport and entertainment has been a consistent draw throughout the event’s history with most tournaments reaching sold out status, including last year when the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2024 reached full house for the first time since the pandemic.
Those ticket figures have now been overtopped for the Hong Kong Sevens 2025 from 28-30 March, nearly 38,500 three-day passes having already been sold, for a cumulative total of 115,500 individual tickets.
With the tournament’s official community partner, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, hosting 5,000 students to the Sevens on the Friday, the individual tally reaches 120,000, exceeding the configuration of the former venue, Hong Kong Stadium. With seat kills and associated structural builds for the Hong Kong Sevens at Kai Tak the daily capacity for the tournament will be around 47,000.
With two weeks to go to the Sevens, sales are expected to increase further as the tournament is set to sell the most individual tickets in Hong Kong Sevens’ history in 2025.
Full house for Hong Kong’s premier corporate weekend
Long renowned as the event where Hong Kong’s hard charging corporate community unwinds, the Sevens has also again proven a hit with corporate hospitality audiences.
Organisers Hong Kong China Rugby have confirmed that all their corporate hospitality suites for the tournament weekend have sold out months ago. The move to Kai Tak has also allowed the organisers to increase the number of temporary corporate boxes built on the East side of the Stadium from 98 to a whopping 138, with sales of those structures now at 99% sold.
“Hong Kong China Rugby is delighted to celebrate another milestone in the prestigious history of the Hong Kong Sevens. Revenues from the tournament are put right back into the sport and the Hong Kong community, and we are grateful for the support of our fans from around the world,” said Bryan Rennie, Executive Director of Commercial and Business Operations of Hong Kong China Rugby.
“It is a great honour for the Sevens to be the first international sporting event to be held in the new Kai Tak Stadium, and we are excited to be bringing a show and a crowd worthy of this once-in-a lifetime moment,” added Rennie.
Biggest Rugby Party set for biggest Sevens crowd ever
Given the impending arrival of the biggest Sevens crowd ever, Hong Kong China Rugby is preparing the world’s biggest rugby party for Asia’s premier sporting weekend.
On top of in-stadium performances from international recording artists Kaiser Chiefs, Pete Tong and Gala on an 18-metre-wide stage overlooking the re-imagined South Stand at Kai Tak, over 20 DJs and bands will be playing over the weekend in the event’s all-new Fan Village.
Inside the stadium, The Champion, one of Asia’s longest bars, is sure to be busy as spectators experience the electrifying impact of Hong Kong’s state-of-the-art new sports venue.
Fans are sure to bring the roof down when the Hong Kong China Sevens teams take to the pitch for their Melrose Claymores matches, but the retractable dome will also play a key role in the weekend’s entertainment plans.
The retractable roof will be closed on Friday for an Opening Ceremony with a modern twist as traditional Lion Dances meet laser light shows as Kai Tak transforms into the world’s largest club on Friday evening.
It will be clear skies on Saturday and Sunday night with the roof open to accommodate the festival feel, which will come to a crescendo with the biggest ever pyrotechnics display in Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens history on Sunday night.
It all bodes well for another bucket list tournament as Hong Kong China Rugby is ready to “See you at the Sevens – at Kai Tak!”.
