Asia Rugby is delighted to announce the appointment of Dilroy Fernando as the new Match Official Manager. With over 20 years of extensive experience in match officiating, coaching, and performance reviewing, Dilroy brings a wealth of expertise and a proven track record to this pivotal role.
In his new capacity, Dilroy will oversee the logistics of match official operations, maintain comprehensive databases of officials, coaches, and performance reviewers, and ensure strict adherence to budgetary guidelines. He will manage the nominations and appointments process, support performance reviews, and serve as a crucial liaison with team coaches and management on refereeing and law matters. Additionally, he will play a significant role in the development of male and female match officials and coaches, organising online courses and discussions to promote continuous improvement ensuring Asia Rugby principles and values.
Dilroy’s journey in rugby is marked by his impressive career as a national rugby player for Sri Lanka during the mid-1980s, followed by his extensive service as a referee, coach, and match commissioner at both domestic and international levels. He has been an integral part of the Asia Rugby competitions, having served as a referee, coach of match officials, and performance reviewer. His international experience includes delivering World Rugby accredited courses in over 20 countries, underscoring his dedication to the sport globally.

Among his many accomplishments, Dilroy has held several honorary positions such as President of the Sri Lanka Society of Rugby Football Referees, Chairman of Rugby at Isipathana College, and Chairman of Rugby at the Ceylonese Rugby & Football Club. His leadership and organisational skills have been instrumental in the success of numerous international tournaments, including the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, and various Rugby Asiad tournaments.
