The exciting weekend of action reached its climax with Hong Kong China Men and Thailand Women emerging as the champions of the Asia Rugby U20 Sevens tournament.
The Nepal Rugby Association, serving as the host, earned a commendation from the teams, match officials and Asia Rugby. Once again, they showcased their adeptness in orchestrating a well-executed tournament.
Throughout the weekend, participants were treated to Nepali hospitality, capturing the very essence of the event against the backdrop of the picturesque Kathmandu Valley. Nepal’s reputation as a preferred host for age-grade 7s is steadily solidifying.

Visit with the Prime Minister of Nepal
The Honorable Pushpa Kamal Dahal the Prime Minister of Nepal received at his office Asia Rugby President Qais Abdulla Al Dhalai to discuss sports affairs of mutual interest.
Tanka Lal Ghising the Member Secretary of the Nepal National Sports Council, Dipak Devota the President of the Nepal Rugby Association, and Ridzal Saat the Regional Partnership Manager from World Rugby all were also in attendance.
Women’s Event Showcases Intense Competition
Though the women’s event featured only four participating teams, each match was a testament to fierce competition, where slim point differentials ultimately decided the winners. Thailand emerged triumphant, securing the coveted gold medal after the completion of two rounds of pool matches.
Thailand secured the gold medal due to a point difference advantage, as they emerged on top in a tiebreaker situation against the Hong Kong China women’s team after the pool matches. Both teams accumulated 16 points each, having each claimed a victory against the other. The final decision hinged on point difference, with Thailand amassing 119 points compared to Hong Kong China’s 106.
Men’s Competition Sees Hong Kong China’s Triumph
In a riveting showdown within the men’s competition, the determined Malaysian team pushed Hong Kong China to the edge, ultimately securing the silver medal.
Hong Kong China’s victorious journey owed much to the standout performance of Blake Elliot. His exceptional skills shone as he emerged as the top scorer, contributing a remarkable total of 9 tries and 14 conversions, amassing an impressive 78 points for his team.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Muhammad Syafiq Bin Wahiddisplayed his field prowess with an outstanding performance, notching up 7 tries. His contributions added a significant edge to the competition, showcasing the extraordinary talent on display.
Chinese Taipei Achieves Bronze
Securing the 3rd position, Chinese Taipei asserted its dominance with a convincing 29-5 victory over Thailand. Concurrently, the Indian Men’s team secured the 5th spot by prevailing over Uzbekistan in the 5th/6th place final match. It’s worth noting that India had already marked their journey with a notable victory over Hong Kong China, triumphing 22-21 in a closely contested battle during the pool phases.
