Asia Rugby announced the inclusion of the Sri Lanka Men’s and Women’s rugby teams in the last two legs of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series, the teams will play under the Sri Lanka National Olympic Committee flag.
Careful consideration was given by the Asia Rugby Executive Committee for a one-time waiver to allow the Sri Lanka athletes to compete in the final two legs of the 2022 Asia Rugby Sevens Series due to be held in South Korea on 12th and 13th November and in the United Arab Emirates on 26th and 27th on the same month respectively.
Asia Rugby initially received a request for Sri Lankan teams to take part in the series from the President of the National Olympic Committee Sri Lanka Suresh Subramaniam when he was received in Dubai by Asia Rugby President Qais Al Dhalai.

A further request was made by Roshan Ranasighe, Sri Lanka Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs when he also met Asia Rugby President at the Asia Rugby Head Office in Dubai. With both Sri Lankan highest sport authorities being aligned, Asia Rugby Executive Committee approved the participation of the Sri Lankan teams in the final two rounds of the Asia Rugby Sevens Series.
