Asia Rugby, working with its Competitions Committee, Player Welfare and Medical Committee, relevant stakeholders and in line with the Return to Play Guidelines provided by World Rugby, has announced the decision to Adjust the competitions scheduled for the period, 1st January 2021 to 31st March 2021.
The Competitions Committee under the Chair of Mr Asanga Seneviratne was informed of the recommendations of the Asia Rugby COVID-19 Working Group which was set up under the Player Welfare and Medical Committee.

In sharing its recommendation, Asia Rugby considered all factors related to holding Competitions and including Asia Rugby’s #ReturnToPlay activates, however in the best interest of the welfare of everyone involved in the sanctioned tournaments and activities of Asia Rugby, the following decisions have been taken leading to a further adjustment of the scheduled Games for Quarter 1 for 2021.
The Asia Rugby Division 2 scheduled to be held in Lahore Pakistan between China, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and host Pakistan. This has been moved to the Quarter 4 competitions window.
Asia Competitions Committee (including High Performance), chairperson Mr Asanga Seneviratne, said, “Rugby is slowly returning and quite a few unions have begun training. Domestic competitions are scheduled to begin shortly.
The pathway to return to normality in the international calendar is still uncertain with concerns over travel restrictions and the possibility of teams being quarantined being major Hurdles to overcome.
We continue to monitor the situation closely with constant dialogue with our stakeholders and have proposed a tentative calendar for competitions to begin in the second quarter of this year.”
The continuing uncertain circumstances has led to a further adjustment of the schedule Games of Quarter 1 for 2021.”
