Singapore showed their class today in the Asia Rugby Championship Division II final (ARC DII final) as they dismantled Thailand, 38-13 with a clinical display of rugby at the Taipei Municipal Stadium.
In what was a similar trend to the first match between Chinese Taipei and India, the final seemed like it would be a tight affair as Singapore lead Thailand 14-10 late into the first half. But a try in the last minute of the first half to Singapore’s prop, David Gull seemed to take the wind out the Thai dreams as Singapore went into the sheds with a handy 21-10 lead.
And the game all but ended as first, Maverick Lim scored in the 7th minute and then Robert Riha followed up in quick succession as Singapore raced to a 33-13 lead with 25-minutes remaining.
A barrage of substitutions by both teams to inject more life into the game saw both teams nullify any future efforts until Teng put the final nail in the Thailand coffin as the Lions celebrated their immediate return to Division I next year.
In the earlier match, Chinese Taipei defeated India 37-19.
