A hat-trick to Singapore fullback, Charlie Lambert in the first half of today’s Asia Rugby Championship Division II tournament against India set the tone for a convincing win for the top seeds as they easily recorded a 49-0 victory. And with it, a spot in the final on Saturday against Thailand.
Lambert’s first try in the 4th minute was the pick of his tries as he fended off four players, skirted the sideline before diving over the corner flag to dot down and put Singapore 5-0 up.
Chong Yau Teng, captain, Gaspar Tan, Maverick Lim, Nashrul Hadi Hanafi and Robert Riha were Singapore’s other try scorers as the Lions continued to apply pressure on India throughout the game.
India were not to be outdone and showed glimpses of promise, but handling errors and fitness took its toll as they failed to convert some of their promising moves.
Saturday’s final against Thailand promises to be a tighter affair, but Singapore will walk away today with a lot of confidence going into the Division II finale.
