Speaking at the launch, Asia Rugby’s Secretary General and Chair of the Regional Association’s Development Committee, Qais Aldhalai said,
“This competition is a great outcome from our recent, very successful Growing the Game conference held in Dubai in September, which was attended by over 60 participants from all around the Region.
The ideas for this contest were generated by the conference attendees themselves, demonstrating the commitment of our member unions to our mission to promote our sport and grow participant numbers as we build up to the region’s first ever Rugby World Cup, in Japan in 2019.
We would like to thank World Rugby for its support. The very kind donation of hundreds of Rugby balls for the competition will help our unions enormously.”
Ridzal Saat, World Rugby’s Rugby Services Manager for Asia commented, “We are delighted with the progress being made in the Region. Numbers are going through the roof. I am sure that the added incentive of these balls for unions will further fuel the Asia Rugby dynamo”
Ridzal added, “It is hoped that through this initiative, our member unions can achieve some of the development goals that they have targeted as part of the RWC 2019 Impact Beyond Projects across Asia”
Asia Rugby is currently top of the World Rugby table for Get Into Rugby participants within World Rugby Regional Associations.
