Iran Rugby , Interest in rugby has grown exponentially over the past 5 years due to Iranian Rugby Association‘s efforts to grow the game among women and girls.
“Gorgon Cup” Get Into Rugby – Iran
On 11 and 12 May 2017 the Iranian Rugby Association organised the Gorgon Cup in the North Eastern city of Gorgon.
Nine U20 teams from various provinces took part in a Rugby 7s competition that also served as trials for the selection of a national U20s team that will take part in a training camp in Germany and play international matches against Germany’s U20 women’s team in September 2017.
The head coach Nazanin Hoseini and four assistant had been appointed to prepare the squad for their first U20s tournament. The tournament also gave an opportunity for 9 female referees to hone their skills.
Iran Rugby Federation also has its eyes set on participating in the U18 Girls tournament to be held around the World Sevens Series event in Dubai.
