Rugby India Reports that on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Indian Women’s Rugby team was awarded a cash prize of Rupees Three Lakhs for their recent achievement of winning Silver at the Asian Rugby Sevens Trophy held at Vientiane, Laos on 17th & 18th February 2017. On behalf of the Indian Rugby Football Union and Societe Generale, the financial partner of Rugby India, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT and KISS awarded the Cheque to the team at KISS, Bhubaneswar.
Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi also acknowledged and applauded this effort of the Indian women’s Rugby team in ‘Mann ki Baat’ (Part 29) aired on 26th February 2017. On the International Women’s Day eve, KISS had also organized a Get Into Rugby Programme at KISS premises, where, the Indian Women’s Rugby Team played and interacted with around 7500 tribal girls from KISS.
Speaking on the occasion Nasser Hussian, General Manager, Rugby India said, “Heartiest Congratulations to the Indian Women’s Rugby team for the commendable performance they showcased at an international level. Women’s Rugby is growing at a rapid rate across the nation. On the eve of International Women’s Day, not only did the Indian National Women’s Rugby Team get felicitated and receive a monetary reward but were also given a commitment from Rugby India and their partners Societe Generale to further strengthen Women’s Rugby in the country. We are thankful to Societe Generale for all the support and commitment they have shown towards our efforts of developing Rugby across the nation”
